Enabling young people to travel a pathway to success
DevonPathways offers 1-2-1 bespoke packages designed to meet the individual needs of our young people. We will create individualised programmes in conjunction with the referring body, parent and young person. Mentoring is community-based, building social skills and exploring different interests.
Experience helps build self-esteem and confidence as well as enable the young person to find interest and belonging. We build programmes that offer to build on previous experiences that have engaged our young people or new experiences to ignite a flame.
We work closely with climbing and sports centres and are open to all forms of interest from fossil hunting to metal detecting. experiences enable a deeper rich learning and understanding.
DevonPathways introduces young people to different social settings, developing communication and social- skills. Having continence in different social setting and developing understanding of social interactions in these setting is key to a successful pathway to the future
We encourage mentors to find activities that can inspire and provide calming and engaging environments. Our young people have been involved in making clay sculptures and even amking shelf units form old guitars.
We often cook at the field farm and forest school. We encourage use of the vegetables grown in the raised beds. We have a mentor who is a trained chef and provide opportunities for our young people to explore the wonder of cooking and tasting fresh produces. The highlight of this half term has been cooking beetroot Brownies and a Risotto on a charcoal BBQ. We have also cooked chargrilled chicken, flat breads and many other fantastic foods
Although our service offers door to door transport, we enable Young people to have confidence and independence when using public transport. We work on timetables and confidence as a user on buses and trains
We use Quay climbing centre in Exeter to give the opportunity for our young people to develop their strength, balance, confidence and problem solving Often making rapid progress climbing can also teach young people to recognize physical representations of adrenaline and fear and builds emotional development and resilience. Our young people learn management of risk and management of emotions and tenacity when overcoming difficult obstacles. We also offer participation in the NICAS climbing award through the Quay climbing centre.
